Contact About   by Ben Dwyer.

I have been making websites since 2000. Below are some examples of my work.

Recent Work

These are websites that I designed and built.

Trowbridge Gallery

When I was at Trowbridge, one of my main roles was designing a new website with e-commerce functionality. We wanted to develop a range of different ways of ordering the products, so that people could search using different criteria. The search bar on the left gives you different ways of searchingg the site. The products are also linked to similar items.

This website was a lot of fun to work on. We introduced new features like choosing and changing the main displayed image and the frame it was displayed in, so the customer could customise their order.

I worked on this project from start to finish and also built a back-end ordering system.

Trowbridge Photography

This was my introduction to the power of database driven websites (using MySQL and PHP). The website allows customers to order prints online.

Photography by Nigel Blundell

Nigel Blundell has been taking photos for a long time, but he needed somewhere to display them. I decided to expand my knowledge of PHP and build him this image gallery at the same time. The site is really quick and easy to update. The thumbnail images and watermarking of the pictures are all generated 'on the fly' by the server. I also designed an admin system for managing the content.

Code

I helped design these websites, but my main role was writing the background code and integrating booking systems.

MyCamping

The concept of this website was "a myspace for the camping and caravan community." It's still in its 'Beta' phase at the moment and more functionality is being added all the time.

Alan Rogers .travel

This website selling good value camping holidays. The search facility is driven by XML which determines which campsites are available on the dates when you wish to travel. XML is also used to generate prices and book the campsite and ferries.

I also built a map search facility which integrates XML into Google Maps

This website has over 3000 campsites throughout Europe. I built the database from which it is driven, and integrated the database into the site using PHP.

Fun

These are websites that I made just for fun. I probably learnt something too.

Scruffian

This is my personal website. The design changes quite often so as a result it can be a bit like a maze, but I quite like that. Its something to get lost in.

Trailscene

When I started building trails there was a lot a trial and error involved and I made a lot of mistakes. I set up this website to help other people who wanted to build trails, to encourage more people to give it a go and to support the trailscene.

I started work on this website when I had a broken leg. It was abandoned when the cast came off and I never finished it, but I still like the way it looks.

Revolving Doors

Thisisnotaskateboard

This website was started when I first began riding jumps. I used a £30 camera with about half a mega pixel. The website was heavily reliant on iframes, which open up a lot of interesting possibilities. This was a fun website to make and play around with. Sometimes simple things are best.

Dirtsurfer UK

This is one of the first websites I made. It doesn't work too well at the moment because a lot of the pictures are missing and It was a pain to update.

It was abandoned quite quickly becasue I found easier ways of doing things, and I started riding BMX.

Older Work

Some examples of projects I worked on in the past.

Fitline

Achim ran from one Coast of Australia to the other in less than two months. I designed this site to help promote Achim's run. Due to the nature of the project there was a very tight deadline. The site was produced in less than 24 hours

Pink Scales

I designed this website for a music production company. I worked with Tom Stanley with some of the drawings. One of the main challenges of this website was that I never met the client - all of our communication was by email. Working like this means that you have to be very clear when you are describing ideas and experimenting with different designs. I think the final result is very pretty.

The site uses a content management system, which makes it easy to update.

Noid co

Tom Stanley designed this site on paper and I put it into practice. One of the interesting things about working with someone who has no knowledge of the limitations of web design is that they come up with very unique ideas. Tom wanted the news text to scroll at an angle, which is a hard effect to design, especially when the text needs to change regularly.

Ben Marwood

Ben Marwood is a singer/songwriter from Reading. I designed his first website and have done all of his websites for him since then. This site could do with a new design and admin tools, as it is getting pretty dated.
